WAGE SUBSIDY PROGRAM

What is it?

The Wage Subsidy Program is a program that assists individuals in securing long-term employment by supporting direct work experience.

The program coordinator can negotiate an agreement with an employer that will subsidize part of the new employee's wages.

The subsidy amount varies and depends on a number of things, including: the hourly wage rate and the number of hours worked weekly.

Am I eligible?

In order to be eligible for the program, individuals must:

Be E.I. eligible (this does not only include clients who are on an active EI claim, but can include clients who qualify under "reachback" status)
  • Be Referred by an Service Canada authorized Counsellor and have a completed Return-to-Work Action Plan
  • Have an up-to-date resume
  • Be "job-ready"
As an employer, how do I use the program?

In order to be eligible for the program, employers must:
  • Have up-to-date W.C.B. coverage and be in compliance with W.C.B. regulations
  • Be willing to provide full-time employment (more than 30 hours per week)
  • Have been in business for more than a year (or have had previous business experience)
It is important to note that a contract must be in place BEFORE a client starts employment.
